The Carolina Reaper was rated as the world's hottest chilli pepper by the Guinness World Records on the 7th August 2013. It's a cross between a ghost pepper (Native to Assam) (previously a world record holder) and a red habanero (Native To Mexico and similar to the Carribean Scotch Bonnet). The official Guinness World Record is 1,569,300 Scoville Heat Units (SHU) and was tested by Winthrop University in South Carolina.
